A Journey Through Eastern Greenland’s Wild Edge

A Journey Through Eastern Greenland’s Wild Edge

This is the kind of trip that rewires your sense of scale: big sky, bigger ice, and days measured by ridgelines, fjords, and the hush of snow underfoot. Over 9 nights, you’ll begin with a brief Arctic warm-up in Akureyri before stepping into Eastern Greenland—where snowmobiles, dog sleds, and snowshoes become your daily rhythm.

At EscapeXperts®, we design this expedition around your pace and priorities—especially for families and groups who want the adventure without the stress. Your planning/design fee is translated into clear deliverables: a discovery session, curated route and experience options, iteration rounds to refine choices, and a final travel plan with checklists—plus support for changes as your trip approaches.

Akureyri: North Iceland’s Arctic Gateway

Your journey opens with an overnight in Akureyri, an easygoing base in North Iceland—perfect for resetting after international travel and setting you up for an early start. Think of it as a quiet threshold: one good night’s sleep before the real wilderness begins.

Constable Point & Liverpool Land: First Steps Into the Polar Frontier

From Iceland, you’ll fly onward and touch down in Constable Point on the rugged peninsula of Liverpool Land in Eastern Greenland. With your guide, you’ll get oriented to the equipment and the terrain before earning your first panoramic reward: a guided climb on one of Liverpool Land’s jagged peaks, with sweeping views over Hurry fjord and the mountain ranges beyond.

Lunch takes an expedition-style turn inside authentic Weatherhaven tents—warm, practical, and deeply “this is real.” Later, you’ll learn traditional techniques by building your own igloo, then settle in for the night inside your ice-crafted shelter (or choose the Weatherhaven if you prefer).

Ittoqqortoormiit & Scoresbysund: Culture, Color, and Kaffemik

Ittoqqortoormiit & Scoresbysund Culture, Color, and Kaffemik

Next, it’s time to travel the Eastern Greenland way—by snowmobile. You’ll power across stark white landscapes, pausing at viewpoints where sea ice fractures into jagged geometry and icebergs punctuate the horizon, before arriving in Ittoqqortoormiit, one of Greenland’s most remote Inuit settlements, overlooking Scoresbysund.

After a private tour, you’ll spend two nights in a local guesthouse and experience Kaffemik, a Greenlandic tradition of warm hospitality—an intimate counterbalance to the vastness outside.

Kap Hope, Kap Tobin & Beyond: Dog Sled Days and Hot Springs

In the morning, you’ll set out by dog sled—arguably the most atmospheric way to move through this landscape. Your husky team carries you toward the deserted village of Kap Hope, onward to Kap Tobin, and then to nearby steaming hot springs that feel almost surreal against the ice.

The finale is an ascent to an icecap summit for immense coastal views—an unforgettable perspective on how wild and water-shaped this region truly is.

Kalkdal Valley & Postkassen Valley: Snowshoes, Wildlife Tracks, and a Polar Picnic

You’ll return by snowmobile to Constable Point, then slow things down with snowshoes—an easy, playful way to explore deeper powder without rushing the experience. Keep watch for signs of polar bears and other Arctic wildlife as you cross Hurry fjord and push into the remote Kalkdal Valley.

Lunch is as memorable as the route: a picnic served on a remote iceberg—simple food, extraordinary setting. For your final nights in the field, you’ll choose between a tent or a remote Kalkdal hut, leaning fully into the classic explorer spirit.

On your final morning, you’ll snowshoe through trail-less terrain, then snowmobile into Postkassen Valley for one last guided peak climb—your closing look at Eastern Greenland’s dramatic, ice-sculpted horizons—before heading home via Reykjavik.
